Mooloolaba Beach

In my opinion there’s nothing better than a Saturday morning breakfast at a beachside café followed by a swim at the local beach (except maybe a Monday morning breakfast at a beachside café in the Maldives followed by a swim at my own private beach whilst being served cocktails by a shirtless and extremely attentive Johnny Depp).

Anyway, back to reality. Last Saturday I announced it was high time we all went to Mooloolaba for breakfast and a swim seeing it was such a beautiful day. Mum, Dad, my sister Shrimp, her partner Brendon, my brother Josh, Chris and I all went for breakfast at a café then off to Mooloolaba Beach to hit the waves.

The surf was a bit choppy and rough and the waves were pretty big but that didn’t stop us from heading out. Well, when I say us, I mean everyone except Shrimp. It took her about 10 minutes to get out to hip deep water during which time she was unceremoniously dumped by several well intentioned waves resulting in a few choice expletives, a rather amusing drowned lemming looking hairstyle and eyes that were glowing red due to the force of the waves peeling back her eyelids and dousing her eyeballs with salt water. I found it all rather amusing. Shrimp did not. “That’s it!” she spluttered, “I’m going in!!” And so she did, but not without being dumped one last time.

The rest of us continued out to where the waves were still huge but at least out of the washing machine zone where they were breaking. After a good period of time of roller coaster like fun, we all felt we’d better head to shore, especially as Dad was starting to feel the affects of the chilli jam that had been part of his breakfast and was concerned he was going to produce burly. Not a good thing for surrounding swimmers on two counts; sharks and well, swimming in chilli jam poo. Enough said.

A hearty breakfast, I got to laugh at Shrimp, and Dad managed to keep his burly in. A very successful excursion me thinks!
