Dani from Positively Present came up with this month’s Random Acts of Kick Arse theme, and she chose passion.
I had planned on writing something quite different on the topic of passion but as life would have it, I was given inspiration that has led me in a different direction.
Lance, from The Jungle of Life recently posted a tribute to his friend, Amy Pratt. On February 25, Amy left this world at the all too young age of 34.
I didn’t know Amy but Lance’s beautiful tribute really impacted me. It reminded me that when I strip it all back, my two greatest passions are;
- Those close to me.
- Living like I mean it.
Whilst Amy has gone, from what I can gather from her site, She Sleeps With Sea Glass, she has left behind a legacy of love, caring, laughter and adventure. And a great example for the rest of us.
So, my friends, don’t wait.
Call that friend.
Spend time with your family.
Start that business.
Tell that person that you love them.
Use your “good” wine glasses.
Go on that trip.
Chase that dream.
Write that book.
Dance, play, explore.
Take the plunge.
Whatever it is you’ve been leaving for tomorrow or “some day”, let Amy’s story be your inspiration to do something about it today.

I’m deeply moved by this, and find myself at a loss for words.
I’m going to use my good wine glasses tonight.
No more waiting.
Much Love to You, Sami, My Friend,
Lori
~xoxox
Sami,
Know that your writing today touches me deeply. It’s been a strange week, this past week. One that has had me thinking much about life, and love, and what truly matters.
Okay. Hmmm…this is much harder to write than I thought it would be. Perhaps because I feel like I’m talking directly to you, Sami. My heart to yours. Anyway, today, just know that I value your friendship dearly.
Love always,
Lance
@Lori
Thanks Chicka. I felt the same way when I saw Lance’s tribute. And yes, please use the good wine glasses.
Big love right back at you. xxx
@Lance
Losing a friend is up there as one of the hardest things to go through so I really feel for you, Lance. Your tribute to Amy was so moving. It really made me stop and think about how fleeting life can be. And I have to say, I’ve played that Ronan Keating vid about a thousand times. Such perfect lyrics and ones that seem to reflect how Amy lived. Take care and be kind to yourself as you go through this Lance. You have many friends supporting you (even in Aussie land). Much love. xxx
Wow, this is incredibly moving, Sami. Thank you for writing this and for sharing this as your RAOKA post. Beautiful.
@Positively Present
Thanks Dani.
Sami!! This is more than beautiful — tears in my eyes here.
I did know Bella, we visited each others’ blogs a bit. So young to go.
I am so going to pull out the best wine glasses, plan that trip, chase that dream.
And tell YOU that I love you! You are a bubbly sweet soul with a kick-arse fun streak that is infectious. And I am blessed to know you.
xo
@Jannie
Jannie, I’m so sorry you lost a friend too. So sad. Of anyone I know, you’d be one of the first I’d expect to live like you mean it (and use your good wine glasses). And thank you, you are such a sweetheart! Right back at you by the way. I too am so lucky to know you. Much love and big hugs. xxx
Hi Sami,
This post is so beautiful and soul stirring. You have said so much with just a few words.
I read Lances tribute too…its never easy to lose someone you care about so deeply. But i am sure…we all can learn from each experience…LIVE passionately,YES!
Thank you for this touching reminder.
Much Love,
Z~
@Zeenat
Thanks Z. Yes, I found Lance’s tribute a great reminder to make the most of it. Amy’s story is proof of that.
What a tragic way to die at that age !
I admire your words, but the problem is, as long as you’re alive, you don’t really value it, and by the time you’re about to die – it’s tooo late.
Still, it’s time to rock every minute of your life, and thanks to your reminder – that’s what I doing now !!
Keep rocking !
@Mars
Hi Mars. You bring up a valid point. It’s true we tend to take life (and loved ones) for granted while we’re here but I do believe it’s possible to turn this around. In my experience, having some sort of gratitude practise makes a huge difference in keeping your appreciation levels high. I tend to use a gratitude journal where I regularly list things I am grateful for. I’ve found that consciously searching for things I’m grateful for helps me uncover all the amazing stuff in my life that I might have otherwise missed.
Thanks for stopping by!
