Recently my sister Shrimp was reminiscing about her time teaching in Hughenden (a small town about 4.5 hours west of Townsville, Australia) and was retelling a story that never fails to get a laugh from us…
On this particular day she was on playground duty, dutifully refereeing fights, ensuring litter was being picked up by detention detainees and generally walking around pretending to have some semblance of authority when a little girl by the name of Tarney (name changed) came up to her and said, “Miss, Miss, that bird just shit on me!” Miss May (ie Shrimp) said in her teacherly voice, “Now Tarney, that’s not a very nice word to use. How about you use the word poop instead?” “OK,” said Tarney. She thought for a minute and then repeated her statement, “Miss, Miss, that shit just pooped on me!”
Ah, the innocence of children and the hilarity of poop, such a great combination!
