Pyjamas

For most of us, having at least one pair of pyjamas is the norm (that’s if you actually wear pyjamas) but for thousands (800,000 in fact) foster children in New York, pyjamas are not only a luxury but some of them didn’t even know they existed.

I was watching The Oprah Show the other day and was introduced to the Pajama Program which is the brainchild of Genevieve Piturro. It’s a great story about how Genevieve discovered a need for pjs for foster children after volunteering for refuges. She got off her butt and started fundraising to buy pyjamas. And so was born the Pajama Program.

You can learn more about the program here; Pajama Program video.

As part of the show, Oprah’s producers called all the audience members prior to taping the show and issued them a challenge. They had to bring as many pairs of new pyjamas they could to donate to the program. The only rule was they could only buy 1 pair themselves. All other pairs had to be bought by others. The grand total was a whopping 32,046 pairs of brand new pjs.

We’ve made a donation to the program. Here’s where to go if you want to do the sam; donate to the Pajama Program.
