Friday Question

[Note: through the magic of modern technology, this post was written in the past so that you could read it now which was the future. Clear as mud?]

Given I’m likely to be currently having the time of my life on holidays in Hawaii, catching up with good friends, ticking things off my Daisy List and in all likelihood, downing yet another cocktail of the day, this week’s kick arse question is;

If time, money and responsibilities were no issue, where would you like to travel to in the world and what one thing would you love to do there?

Apart from looking into a volcano in Hawaii, I’d love to take part in the ANZAC Day dawn service in Gallipoli (Turkey).

In case you’re not aware of this annual commemoration, here’s a quick history lesson…

During the First World War from April 25, 1915 to January 9, 1916, the ANZACs or Australian and New Zealand Army Corp, took part in the Gallipoli Campaign. This was a joint British Empire and French operation mounted to capture the Ottoman (ie Turkish Empire) capital of Constantinople, and secure a sea route to Russia, who was one of the Allied powers (Germany and Hungary-Austria had blocked Russian trade routes).

The attempt failed and there were heavy casualties on both sides.

ANZAC Day is a national day of remembrance commemorated by both Australians and New Zealanders every year on April 25 to honour those who lost their lives at Gallipoli (and other military operations). Dawn services are held to symbolise the dawn Gallipoli landing, which was the start of the battle.

These days, Australians, New Zealanders and Turks make the pilgrimage to Gallipoli and stand shoulder to shoulder at the Gallipoli dawn service in honour of those who died for their respective countries.

While I don’t support war, I do support those who fought (and fight) for our country. So my dream is to attend the Gallipoli ANZAC Day dawn service in honour of all the men and women who’ve lost their lives through war.

Your turn! Where would you like to visit and what would you love to do there?

I want to visit a tiny island called Mopellia. John, my partner sailed there in his self built tiny 28 ft sail boat 20 odd years ago and had such an amazing time on that tiny atol that I want to see it with my own eyes. He helped with the fishing and he had to hit sharks on their nose while his friend Kalami, who lived there and was born on the same day and same year as John, hauled in the caught fish.
His stories of that time are outrageous so I have a very good reason to want to go there.
    Thanks for asking.

Where do start? Canada, Italy, France… China, New Zealand… Ok, make mine world trip! Each place has something I want to do or see. For example:

Canada – Rocky Mountains. Italy – would love to travel around on moped and eat! France – the Eiffel Tower for starters and then learn to cook something awesome. China – terracotta statues. New Zealand – snow, snow, snow.

Within Aus I would like to travel to Grafton for the Jacaranda Festival… Tasmania to see the beautiful wilderness. Oh there is so much to do and see!!

    Sami,
Wow, you’re amazing…look at how you are using technology to write your posts for you!! (hey, set that cocktail down for just a minute!!)(and..did you have one for me??)

There are so many places I would love to visit. The first thought I have is of visiting the rain forests in South America. It just seems like such an untamed wilderness.

And Australia and neighboring New Zealand are on the list, as well. I’m sure you would make a great travel host, Sami!

The world is filled with so many amazing places…(I better get started!!).

And…I suppose you’re reveling in the big tennis championship win, right? Right????

Great question, Sami! I’m sitting here with my cousin and her friend (both lived in Perth for a long time) and your question sparked a great conversation with us. Thanks for asking it! As for where I’d want to go… I think I’d love to live on a beautiful beach in Australia (or anywhere warm and beautiful, really) and spend my days writing and somehow getting paid for it! Someday…. :)

London, England. I don’t know why I am drawn this place. I have always wanted to go. I want to hear Big Ben. I want to ride those double Decker buses. I want to see Buckingham Palace, Scotland Yard, and Piccadilly Circus. Maybe it is my love of Charles Dicken, or Sherlock Holmes. (Yes I want to go to 21B Baker Street.) One of these days I will get on that plane with my lovely wife , shaking her head, and we will go.

Hey there Chick J! I visited London for the first time last year. It blows my mind they have pubs older than Australia! It’s a beautiful city. Lots of history that’s for sure.

Haha! The saying “it’s 5.30pm somewhere” comes to mind!
Ah, wee Paree. Yep, now that’s a city everyone should see and even though the Eiffel Tower is completely touristy, it’s stunning. A Paris must see!
