Yesterday I posted about Jessica Watson and her none too small dream of becoming the youngest person to sail solo around the world non-stop. Her story was the inspiration for this week’s question.
I’m a firm believer that a big part of living a kick arse life is not only having dreams but taking steps towards them. Now Jessica’s dream is a little on the…how shall I say…FREAKIN COLLOSSAL side but a dream’s a dream no matter what size it is.
Soooo, I’m interested to know;
What is one small very doable dream you have and one BHAD (or Big, Hairy, Audacious Dream)?
My Daisy List contains the majority of my dreams both big and small so feel free to peruse at your leisure but for the purposes of this question, I’ll say;
Small Dream: Make a cupcake stack for someone’s birthday
BHAD: Own an island (yep, that’s pretty big, not so hairy and definitely audacious!)
PS. I’d like to say I came up with the BHAD thing all by myself but that would take talent. Alas, it’s stolen. It’s a slight modification on the concept of BHAGs (Big, Hairy, Audacious Goals) from the book “Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies” by James Collins & Jerry Porras. Seeing as I’ve modified it, does that mean I can call it my own? Please Mr Collins and Mr Porras? Can I? Pleeeeeeease?
Your turn! Let us in on one small dream and one BHAD you have.

Hi Sami!
I vote that you get to keep BHAD. I mean, geez, that’s awesome! And every dose of inspiration comes from *somewhere*!
Let’s see, hmmm, small dream: get my 6-pack back (no, I’m not talking about beer…)
BHAD: a little 900 sq ft cabin with grey-water catchment systems, solar/wind powered (off the grid!), with a huge vegetable garden, and an Australian Shepherd to help me maintain my 6-pack by running my ars off!
Great question (and superb Daisy List)!
You just HAD to ask, didn’t you! Ok this really was a little dream that I never took seriously, just wished for: after having a mastectomy and having one remaining boob, I said to myself ‘this just ain’t working’ and I wished to be able to lose the other one without having cancer in the process.
Damned if I didn’t get my freakin’ wish! Fell, smashed the living devil out of the thing, had to have it removed.
Why, you ask, did I wish for that? Just TRY sleeping comfortably with only one knocker, kiddo!
BHAD: living full time in a travel trailer, hauling it around with me from north to south (to follow the seasons). No house note, no utility bills. Got it made in the shade!
Don’t know if I’d have the balls to sail around the world solo, though!
My small dream is to be able to really hold the “vashistasana” yoga pose, which involves lying on your side and holding yourself up with one arm and leg as you grab and extend the other leg into the air. I can get into it and then I tend to lose it.
My big dream is for my book to become a massive bestseller and bring peace into the working lives of hundreds of thousands of people. I’ve got the book and I’m about to put it on sale soon, and then the “bestselling” part will commence.
Great question! One small dream I have is to keep working on Positively Present… one big dream is to become a well-known, published author!
Great idea to ask this question – put it in writing and you’re raising the signal you send to the universe
Small dream (which I hope to manifest pretty imminently!): to find the perfect house to rent in Westport, Mayo (West of Ireland)
Big dream: to own my own big old country house (mortgage free) and run a holistic retreat centre from it.
Hey Sami,
BHAD from the BHADL (Daisy List)…very cool! And here’s the deal – once you’ve got that island, I’m definitely coming to visit – and I’ll settle for any leftovers from the cupcake stack.
Me: Small: Compete in a Olympic distance triathlon (the next step up for me – and it’s the swim that’s holding me back)
Big: Finish the book that I have carrying around with me, get it published, and share it with the world!
I think everyone knows my BHAD-to be a full time professional joy rebel!!!
a small dream? sappy by true-to by my husband FC Dallas season tickets (pro soccer team in dallas)
@Lori
I agree Lori, Inspiration has to come from somewhere. In actual fact, they should feel honoured don’t you think!
Get a 6 pack? Girl, I’m impressed. The most I can manage is a 4 fat! SO love your BHAD. I’m coming to visit (6 pack in hand)!
@Jeanne
The fact you can find humour in that situation proves what a courageous and inspirational soul you are.
You totally had me laughing out loud! Now when I posed this question, I can guarantee I wasn’t expecting someone to answer with “my dream is to lose my other boob”! That is too freakin funny! It’s given me a new appreciation for having both of them.
The freedom of a caravan (ie travel trailer) – very appealing!
@Chris
You’re well on your way to achieving your BHAD by the sounds of things. Keep us posted on how you go with it!
Hi Chris. I’m thinking another BHAD for me could be to hold ANY yoga pose!
@Positively Present
Hey PP, knowing your writing, I have a sneaking suspicion you’ll achieve your BHAD. I’m looking forward to seeing your name up in lights. Don’t forget us little people!
@Hilda
Hi Hilda. Yep, it’s amazing what happens when you put your dreams out there. I’ve experienced the “coincidences” myself. Love the sound of your BHAD. It’d be my kinda place!
@Lance
Hey Lance. You know there’s always a glass of vino or cold beer waiting for you (island or not)! OK, and a cupcake or two.
Wow, Lance, you’ll totally have to post about your triathlon. I’d love to hear how you go. And yes, get that book out there Lance. The world needs it!
@Brandi
And what a great BHAD that is Brandi! You’re already half way there. Your small dream is not sappy at all – good on you for having a goal that is for someone else. See, a joy spreading rebel through and through!
