This end of the week question is taken from the deep recesses of my brain as opposed to my normal source, the book If², 500 Questions for the Game of Life by Evelyn McFarlane and James Saywell. I know, how exciting, I have deep recesses. Woohoo, let’s celebrate!!!
Here’s the question;
What are 3, easy to implement tips you can recommend for a life well lived?
Here are mine;
- Identify and regularly hang out with people who make you feel good, give you a laugh and have a positive outlook on life. As Jim Rohn (Business Philosopher) said, ”We are the sum total of the five people we spend the most time with”.
- Inject some fun into your life every day; play with your kids/dog/cat/mother in law, share a joke, admire a sunset, watch a movie, read, enjoy a coffee with a friend, do a cartwheel, watch the Simpsons, paint, run naked down the street, whatever you consider fun.
- Find 10 minutes of quiet time just for yourself. I realise this is more of a challenge for those of you with kids but they’ll be better off if you do.
What would your 3 tips for living well be?

Excellent question.
1. Reduce your stress. It physically harms your health, makes you much more susceptible to bad moods, and makes you unpleasant to be around. Start by raframing your negative thoughts into positive ones.
2. Get more and better sleep. This is the easiest and cheapest way for many people to improve their energy levels, and in turn, their moods.
3. Eliminate sugar and refined carbohydrates from your diet. These foods destroy your health and your moods. Eat more natural whole foods instead!
I can’t help sneaking in a 4th ….
4. Embrace your passions and find purpose in your life! After good health (it’s hard to enjoy life without it), I think these are the most important aspects of living a fulfilling life. Find a way to turn your passions into a purposeful career that brings fulfillment.
Hi Vin,
Great tips. Reducing stress is a biggy. So funny you should mention eliminating sugar and refined carbs. We’ve just had a weekend staying with family and had white bread and rice (we normally only eat wholemeal). We both feel SO lethargic and tired. We’ve had plenty of sleep so we can only put it down to the refined carbs. Love number 4 too – I very much agree. Thanks!
Beautiful tips and I agree, you are who you hang with, so spend your time with catalysts and avoid drains.
Here’s my 3 …
1. Make the most of what you’ve got.
2. Follow the passion.
3. Decide to be happy and drive from that.
Hey J.D.,
I like those a lot, especially follow your passion. Re number 1, I have a gratitude journal that helps with that. It works well. Thanks!
I love the first tip – especially the sum of the five people you spend the most time with portion. Here are mine:
1) Live with optimism, moment to moment.
2) Engage in some sort of arts-related activity. Audition for a play, go to a museum, take a painting class. Express yourself.
3) Enjoy a gourmet meal every now and then. While you’re at it, throw in a bottle of really good wine.

Hi Veronica,
Oh yeah, loving number 3! Writing is my creative outlet. I’ve really only started exploring it in the last couple of years – very glad I did! Thanks for the tips.
