Joy

OK, so being an Australian, we’re a day ahead and today is July 1, the start of the unofficially official international Joy Rebel Week devised by Brandi at the Joy Rebel (if you’re new here, check out last week’s post calling for volunteers to Join the Joy Rebel Week). Being from the future has its advantages because us Aussies get to start a day before the rest of you lot (we were also first to find out that Y2K  was a complete load of bollocks)! ;)

Anyway, in order to decide on what joyful things I’ll do in honour of Joy Rebel Week, I felt it necessary to reflect on what joy means to me. Everyone’s definition of joy and what makes them joyful is different but here’s my definition by way of an extremely complex formula I devised myself, clever little joyous thing that I am;

Joy = (fun² + laughter + impromptu Flashdance routine) x 10

Thus, in order for my week to be joyful, it needs to encompass much fun, laughter and the odd impromptu Flashdance routine. Whilst I do plan to partake in fun activities for myself this week, the more I thought about it, the more appealing it was to me to spread the joy. After all, who wouldn’t want to see one of my impromptu Flashdance routines?

Next Wednesday I’ll post on what I get up to during my Joy Rebel Week but here are a few ideas I have so far;

  • Combine 2 of my favourite things and spend a day at the beach writing.
  • Bake a cake for Mum and Dad (not including cake in a week of joy would be sacrilege of the highest order).
  • Send out ecards to my close friends.
  • Watch an inspiring/funny movie.
  • Dinner with my partner Chris.
  • A bubble bath, glass of wine and my favourite music.

The great thing about joy is that it doesn’t have to cost a cent, is contagious and when regularly injected into your life, can prove addictive. It’s one addiction I’m happy to have. Now, if only someone could develop a cure for impromptu Flashdance routine addiction.

Your turn! How do you plan to spend the unofficially official Joy Rebel Week?

    I love all of your ideas for your joy week and was happy to see that they are all easy copy-able ideas that are also cheap. YAY! Thank you.

    p.s. Have you ever tried an ice cold beer in the shower? This used to be my Friday get-off-of-work-in-the-summer routine. Hey, don’t knock it till you’ve tried it. ;) Just maybe use a tinny … :)

    You crack me up girl! I can’t say I have tried an ice cold beer in the shower, mainly on accounts I don’t like beer. I do like the way you think though. Could maybe try an ice cold wine in a sports bottle in the shower! :)

    Hey Sami,
    You know what I think would be a great way to kick off joy rebel week? It’s so easy…the answer’s right here – a video of you doing that impromptu Flashdance routine! So…I can’t wait until next Wednesday (I’m sure it’ll be here right?!?!?).

    Sami, have fun to the nth power out there this week – spreading the joy by being the joy!!

    I’ll be celebrating with you (just several hours off…you celebrate, I sleep, I celebrate, you sleep…see – it ends up being an around-the-clock party!!!)

    A good inspiring movie you could watch is called ‘Kes’. It’s quite old but it’s a great film and should also make you laugh if you’ve got an English style sense of humour :-)

    Lol! Lance, you are seriously evil! ;) You know I’ll have to Flashdance it up now don’t you? Oh, payback is gonna be sweet!

    Have a joy filled week Lance (judging from the pic on your blog, I don’t think that will be a challenge!). Love the round the clock party btw. Here’s cheers!

    Hey MartYn,
    Yes, surprisingly I’ve heard from a not so reliable source that it’s a great movie. Btw, where did you save it?
